Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats image

About Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats:

Growing up in rural Missouri, Nathaniel Rateliff got his early music education from his family, who performed in the church band in which Nathaniel played drums. At 19, Rateliff moved to Denver where he worked night shifts at a bottle factory and a trucking company while testing out songs at open-mic nights. Rateliff’s 2010 solo album, In Memory of Loss, propelled him to the forefront of Denver’s tight-knit folk scene, with The New York Times dubbing him “a local folk pop hero” and launched his career as a touring musician. His debut as well as subsequent solo albums continued to receive critical acclaim while Rateliff continued to explore his sound. A set of rough demos recorded in 2013 pointed Rateliff in a new direction, and somewhere between Sam & Dave and The Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats was born. The band’s self-titled debut album was a breakout success—now certified Gold in the U.S., it has sold over a million records worldwide. Their sophomore album Tearing at the Seams debuted in March 2018 to widespread critical acclaim as well. Last year, Rateliff released his first solo album in seven years via Stax Records. And It’s Still Alright peaked at #3 on iTunes’ “Top Albums” chart, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Americana/Folk” chart, landed at #2 on their “Current Rock” chart and resided at #1 on the Americana Albums Chart for eight consecutive weeks. Rateliff has appeared on every late night television program and recently made his debut on “Saturday Night Live” performing his latest single “Redemption,” which was written for and featured in the Apple Original film, Palmer, starring Justin Timberlake. Rateliff has toured extensively worldwide, playing major festivals and selling out iconic venues including their hometown Red Rocks Amphitheater multiple times. In 2018, Rateliff also launched a Denver-based foundation called The Marigold Project to support community and nonprofit organizations working on issues of economic and social justice.

Max Creek w/s/g The Mallett Brothers Band

Max Creek and The Mallett Brothers Saturday June 12th

Gates: 5:00pm / Show: 6:30pm

Presented by Guthrie Bell Productions and Improv Records as part of the LGD/50 Concert Series (An A.I.M.Family Production)

Max Creek: In those rare instances that a band reaches its fourth decade, it’s usually a result of stardom. It’s easy enough to keep things together when each member has a jet and techs on retainer and the world tour rolls around every few years. But that’s not how Max Creek has done it. In 40+ years Max Creek has been small, big, regionally-huge, medium, and any other size one can think of; they’ve never graced the cover of Rolling Stone, but you’d be hard pressed to find a music fan in the Northeast that hadn’t heard of them.

Well then, how’d they do it?

If you knew Max Creek you’d answer simply, “they just did.” Creek lacks pretense; there is no hip style or genre-title that can define them. From the beginning they’ve mixed anything they liked—rock, country, reggae, soul, jazz, calypso—in with their own great songs and it’s all just come out sounding like Creek. As such they’ve never been the hot item in the flavor-of-the-year club yet they’ve also never gone out of style. Moreover, Creek exudes confidence but lacks ego; each member is an incredible musician but that’s never been what it was about.

But that is all things Creek is not, and what Creek is is far more important. The band is certainly joyous, and their stage is full of smiles and laughter, both during and between songs. All one has to do is glance into the crowd to see that the feeling is contagious. Creek is also much more engaging than the average band, sculpting lengthy shows on-the-fly from their 200+ song catalog with rockers, ballads, deep jams and crowd sing-alongs all tucked into their perfect places. And Creek is, most definitely, a family. 40-odd years in, the audience is a multi-generational stew; it’s not uncommon to witness old-school Creek Freeks getting down with their teenage (or older!) kids.

Creek itself is multigenerational. Though the “front line” of guitarist Scott Murawski, keyboardist Mark Mercier and bassist John Rider has remained intact since the mid-70s, the current drums and percussion team of Bill Carbone and Jamemurrell Stanley weren’t even born when Max Creek was founded.

The Mallett Brothers Band is an independent rock and roll / Americana / country band from Maine. Their busy tour schedule since forming in 2009 has helped them to build a dedicated fanbase across the U.S. and beyond while still calling the state of Maine their home. With a style that ranges from alt-country to Americana, country, jam and roots rock, theirs is a musical melting pot that’s influenced equally by the singer/songwriter tradition as by harder rock, classic country and psychedelic sounds.

The 2nd Annual Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Awards

Regional Eddies Music Awards to broadcast live May 2
After 2 postponements, ‘third time is the charm’
to celebrate the Capital Region music scene
The second annual Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Awards – aka the Eddies Music Awards
– will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 2 from Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga. The
event is presented by KeyBank.
The awards show will be shot on a closed set in UPH’s Great Hall with about 45 people
participating as cast and crew. Four artists will perform during the broadcast, and four panels will
discuss the year in local music and how artists, technicians, venue owners and others pivoted
during the pandemic. The topics for each panel – hosted by WEQX’s Jeff Morad and WEXT’s Andy
Gregory – will vary to reflect the diversity of challenges felt throughout the regional music scene.
Winners of 34 award categories – judged by roughly 100 local music professionals – will be
announced between segments.
The line-up of artists includes Marty Wendell, a 2020 Eddies Music Award nominee for Country /
Bluegrass Artist of the Year; the blues / rock act Jocelyn and Chris, who lead all nominees with
four nominations; bandleader/vocalist/instrumentalist/songwriter Garland Nelson, a two-time
2019 Eddies Music Awards winner; and Schenectady native Promise The Unbreakable™,
nominated for Hip Hop/Rap Artist of the Year in 2019 and again this year. Nelson is doing doubleduty as show emcee.
The show is being filmed by Chromoscope Pictures of Troy. It will be broadcast live on
Collaborative Studios’ Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Apple TV apps, its public access channels in
Albany and Schenectady, and on YouTube and Facebook. It will be available on-demand for free
after the event. Collaborative Studios and the Eddies Music Awards are initiatives of Proctors
Collaborative.
Originally scheduled to be held live April 14, 2020 at Proctors in Schenectady, the show was
postponed due to the pandemic. But the second annual Capital Region Thomas Edison Hall of
Fame Awards – an offshoot of The Eddies Music Awards – was held just days before civic
authorities severely restricted public gatherings in March 2020. The Accents, Blotto, The
Fidelities, Hal Ketchum, Lena Spencer and John Sykes were inducted during a sold-out ceremony
at UPH.
The award show was rescheduled for an early December 2020 live broadcast and it, too, was also
postponed due to rising COVID-19 infection rates in the region.

“The third time is the charm,” said Jim Murphy, Eddies co-founder, of the May 2 date. “There was
trepidation around pulling off the event in December that is absent now. Everyone involved is
really excited this is happening.”
The dates for the third installments of both the Eddies Music Awards and the Eddies Music Hall
of Fame celebration will be also announced during the May 2 broadcast. “The length of time
between this show and the next will be considerably shorter,” according to Sal Prizio, Eddies cofounder. “We’re going to get back on schedule and we’re going to bring the music community
back together in the same room to celebrate.”
WEXT AND WEQX are a media sponsors for the 2020 Eddies Awards.
Broadcast and event details are available at theeddiesawards.com; winners names and event
photos will be posted there after the show.

Badfish w/s/g lespecial

ABOUT BADFISH

The phenomenon known as Sublime, arguably the most energetic, original and uniquely eclectic band to emerge from any scene, anywhere, ended with the untimely death of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Brad Nowell in May of 1996. But encompassing the sense of place andpurpose long associated with Sublime’s music, Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime continues to channel the spirit of Sublime with a fury not felt for some time.

What separates Badfish from other tribute bands is that they have replicated Sublime’s essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label-driven, mainstream acts. Badfish make their mark on the audience by playing with the spirit of Sublime. They perform not as Sublime would have, or did, but as Badfish does.

Pink Talking Fish

Pink Talking Fish is a Hybrid Tribute Fusion Act that takes the music from three of the world’s most beloved bands and creates a special treat for fans of the music.

Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish are all more than just bands… they are Phenomenons.  Their creations have artistically inspired people and their mindblowing live performances have brought people together to form a special sense of community around the love for their favorite band.

Although the music from each act is different, Pink Talking Fish has discovered that fusing the material together creates an amazing story.  The epic emotion of Pink Floyd…. The funky, danceable layerings of Talking Heads…. The multitude of styles, unique compositional structures and pure fun of Phish…. to merge these three into one gives music lovers a special experience.

Pink Talking Fish features Eric Gould on bass, Richard James on keyboards, Zack Burwick on drums and Cal Kehoe on guitar.  This is a band created by musicians who love the music of these acts.  It’s purpose is to heighten people’s passion for this music by creating something fresh and exciting for fans.

Discovering connections is part of the fun:  Pink Floyd’s “On The Run” seamlessly fitting in the middle of the composition of Phish’s “You Enjoy Myself”.  Perfectly placing Phish’s “Sand” into the groove of Talking Head’s “Slippery People”.  Segued collections from all three acts such as Run Like Hell > Making Flippy Floppy > Piper > Run Like Hell or Mike’s Song > Have A Cigar > Once In A Lifetime > Weekapaug Groove.  These ideas are the spirit behind Pink Talking Fish.

The story is ever evolving.  The experience is always exciting.  Come join Pink Talking Fish for the ultimate fusion tribute and celebrate the love of this music in unique fashion.

Dogs in a Pile

Dogs in a Pile is the culmination of a love of music born from the deepest American roots of psychedelia, jazz, fusion, funk, traditional, and rock & roll. Sprung from the rich Asbury Park music scene in New Jersey, their serendipitous convergence has made for the kind of kindred intuition its members had only once dreamed of. Described as “listening to a single moving organism,” the sum of its five parts represents an original journey into the peaks and valleys of psychedelic improvisation, all while remaining reminiscent of so much we love of life and music.

The final iteration of “the Dogs” began with University of the Arts Philadelphia student and Asbury Park veteran Jimmy Law along with his long-time friend Joe Babick, a 4 year veteran of the gifted young musician’s program at the nationally renowned Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ. Lightning struck when they were introduced to Berklee School of Music student and bass player Sam Lucid, who immediately suggested fellow Berklee student and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Kaplan. The addition of fellow Berklee student and collaborator Brian Murray in 2019 made for the quintessential final piece in the Dogs’ puzzle. Their commonality and love for improvisation by way of bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish, as well as a fervent inclination for the study of jazz, fusion and classical music has helped shape the free-flowing style that is the Dogs. Their unique synergy and joy in creating “music as an atmosphere” equates simply to, as the band would say, “spreading good music and good energy to good people.”

Lark Hall Presents Practice Sessions with CK & the Rising Tide – Free Live Music Stream

C.K. & THE RISING TIDE’s brand of music features poetic, nostalgic lyrics supported by music that is rockin’ and emotionally evocative. Curtis K. Flach (“C.K.”) appreciates how a film’s soundtrack enhances and cements the emotions portrayed on-screen. C.K. has a similar agenda for his tunes: “I write music as a soundtrack to daily life – a way to express things you might not be able to say otherwise…or may not want to say.
